Ive already complete a project that was given to me by a general contractor that was given to him by the owner. he paid me half up front and does not want to pay me the other half. what should i do. he signed a contract with me

I'm sorry to hear about that. Depending on how far along the dispute is, several options may be available - an unpaid party can send additional demands for payment, threaten to file (or actually file) suit, make demands for payment under prompt payment or retainage laws (where applicable), or threaten to file (or actually file) a mechanics lien. These options, and the timing of required notices and filings, will vary based on project role and project type. We've found that mechanics liens are a powerful tool for enforcing payment, and certain requirements must be adhered to in order to file a lien. However, filing a lien is certainly not the only option available.
