I had a tree fall on my house last August. Contacted many companies because it needed a crane I was told. One company came out and said they were unsure if they could do it and didn’t quote any pricing because of that and no agreement was written or made. The company came out next day while I wasn’t home and set up the crane in my driveway and overlapped into my neighbors driveway causing damage. The crane operator then proceeded to get into a verbal argument with my neighbor resulting in the police being called and the crane and company being removed. No contact was made to me to inform me of any of this I found out after from my neighbor. Then a second crane comes later that day and says they will try from the road but due to the front trees and wires still weren’t sure if the job could be done. I come home from work and the tree is partially cut and removed from the house and all the debris is on my sidewalk and no company is to be found. Still no agreement, no quote no nothing. So I call and no return messages. In October I receive a bill for 3000.00 to which I call and no one returns my call. I call my insurance and I’m asked if I could submit the bill along with any quote/agreement invoices. I explain none were ever made but I submit the bill. I hear nothing for months... then yesterday a man rings my doorbell at 7:30 in the morning harassing my husband saying we owe them money and need to pay. I immediately call the tree company and explain and I’m told one of the owners would call me back... now today a woman calls me cussing and accusing me of having money or checks and “spending it all” and now don’t have the money to pay them. I reply with I’ve never received a dime from anyone for the work done and I also explained the lack of original agreement or price point to which I’m told they didn’t need to provide anything because after a storm it’s considered “emergency work” so they can charge whatever they choose. She also proceeded to tell me that she would be sending all this to her lawyer and have a lien put on my house... what the heck?!?! I’ve never had anything like this happen before and I’ve called my insurance company and I’ve obtained the police report from the crane incident but otherwise i don’t know what to do. Is this even legal?
