Returned preliminary notice

CaliforniaPreliminary Notice

The preliminary lien notice was returned by the post office saying "no mail receptacle." I have a PO Box to send it to. Do I need to retract and resend the preliminary notice to all or just mail it to the property owner at the PO Box. What is the correct legal way to do it? Thanks!

You should first check to make sure that the address you used is the correct one you were given by the general contractor.  It’s easy to transpose numbers.  If you did, then the safest thing to do is to get a better address for the owner from the general contractor.  He’s required to give you this information.  I would re-send the new Preliminary Notice to the general contractor as well as the owner (via certified mail, return-receipt requested).  You don’t want a future mechanic’s lien to be thrown out on a technicality if you don’t do this correctly.  I’m happy to answer any questions you have about this.
