When should I get a release from General contractor for a subcontractor that has sent notice to owner in CA? At time of payment of at the end of the job

You should get a Progress Payment Waiver & Release whenever you make a progress payment to the contractor from the GC and any subs and suppliers you received a preliminary notice from, and a Final Waiver & Release from all of these when you make the final payment.
