Owner protection from Wyoming mechanics lien

How can an owner protect themselves from liens being placed on their property in Wyoming, when they have paid the General Contractor for the work, but the General Contractor has not paid subcontractors and suppliers? We were recently threatened with liens because the General Contractor took the money we paid for the work/supplies, but the General Contractor did not use the money we paid to pay for the services/supplies. As a result, we had to pay the cost twice in order to ensure our property was not encumbered. Is there any mechanism that can be used to ensure that only the GC can be subject to a lien once the owner has paid them for the work/supplies?
