Owner has not paid balance due on contract

FloridaNotice of Intent to Lien

I am a small building/roofing contractor in the Central Florida area who directly contracted with the property owner to complete a roof repair. The contract was signed, NOC recorded, permit pulled and the client paid the requested deposit. The job has been completed and inspections passed and permit finaled. Now the owner will not answer texts, phone calls or emails. What recourse do I have for getting payment?

If it has been less than 90 days from your last date of work (punch list and inspection are NOT considered last work under the lien law), then I would immediately place a lien on the property because not only will it help you collect the principal due, but can also provide an entitlement to attorneys fees if you turn the claim over to an attorney and file a lawsuit. You also have causes of action for breach of contract and unjust enrichment. I would reach out to an attorney and start by having him or her send a demand letter on your behalf.
