if a mechanics lien gets rendered unenforceable, due to the enforcement deadline not being met, how do i get the lien removed?

There is a legal process that you can use to ask the Court to remove the lien. However, in most situations, a title company will "paper over" the lien if it is shown to be unenforceable. I can't speak to your particular situation, but unless you are selling or transferring the property (including a refi), the lien just sits there doing nothing.
