Is the specific amount needed for a lien release?

CaliforniaLien Releases

I am an architect working with a general contractor in CA. He is terrible at paperwork, and does not want to submit lien releases, in part because he does not want to have to figure out to whom he has paid what. Can the subcontractors submit unconditional releases just saying they were "pain in full" rather than entering a specific amount? If not, what if the amount shown is incorrect? Thanks!

There are 4 form releases (Civil Code sections 8122, 8124, 8126m and 8128). The two unconditional waiver and releases do not contain specific dollar amounts; rather, the contractor/claimant just verifies that they have been paid. The conditional releases do have specific dollar amounts and if payment is not made that matches the amount specified, then the release is not valid. In this case, sounds like unconditonional releases may be the way to go!
