If a home owner is the acting GC, what responsibility / liability do they have?

Massachusetts

I'm a flooring contractor. I was hired by the home owner who was also acting as GC on his new construction home. House was not acclimated for flooring installation and I recommended that we wait. He said he couldn't afford to because the lease was running out where he was living and it's been 2 years now under construction. I understand that I could have walked but I didn't. I warned him of what could happen but never had anything signed. The floor shrunk after the Radiant heat was turned on and the house dried out. Am I 100% responsible or is he also responsible. Isn't the GC the overseer of all operations? Of course he now denies that I ever told him about the shrinkage that could result from installing the flooring before the house dried out and the flooring was acclimated. This was in August / Sept. 2019. sorry about bouncing around. He is looking for me to replace & install 1500sf of Quarter / Rift White Oak. Total price comes to about $20,000.00 labor & material. I offered - you buy the flooring and I'll install it. He & his wife said no. I would love a call so I understand where I stand. And there's more... Thank you so much for your time, Mike Dangredo
