I work for an Hvac company handling electrical work. Is my job essential during covid-19

OregonCoronavirus

I work for an HVAC company. I work with retrofit department and schedule my electricians to do high voltage connections. This is replacing old equipment. Not people with no heat!!!! Is MY position considered essential during covid-19 outbreak? I’m working but VERY uncomfortable.

Oregon's stay at home order isn't nearly as clear as other states'. Governor Brown listed a number of businesses which must close, but no construction-related businesses were on that list. And, generally, if not prohibitted - Oregon businesses can operate, but should maintain an appropriate distance between employees. But, in terms of individual employees within a business that's able to remain open - I'm not sure that Governor Brown has indicated that specific employees within a business can't or shouldn't report to work. If your work can be done remotely, asking your employer to let you work from home might be an option. Or, coming up with some other solution - like moving your workspace to a socially distant area - might make sense, too. With all of that being said, it's a good idea to keep an eye out for additional news and government announcements since things can change at the drop of a hat. And, for a quick look into whether construction businesses can remain open in your state, this tracker should help: Can I do Construction Work In my State?
