We finished the job about a month ago. They said they would send a check and never did.

For that amount, you can file in small claims court.

Yes you could go to small claims court but why bother with time and expense if it's not necessary. You could just let a certified commercial collection agency licensed and bonded to collect in GA collect your money due you for a small contingency fee, that depending on your contract it could be added to the amount due you.
