Mechanics liens usually lead to payment without the need for further action. But, if you've filed a mechanics lien and are still struggling to force payment, there are some steps you can take to speed up recovery. Levelset discusses those steps here: The 4 Steps to Take After Filing a Mechanics Lien. Still, let's look at a few of those steps. For one, the time immediately following a lien filing is generally for negotiating payment. Typically, an owner or title co. will want to do what they can to make the lien go away. So, being persistent with the owner and title company might help. Further, threatening to proceed with a lien enforcement suit if they don't pay what's owed can create a sense of urgency. Many claimants do this via a Notice of Intent to Foreclose. That document basically puts a deadline on when payment must be made and lets the customer know you're prepared to sue, if need be. Finally, enforcing the lien is always an option, too. Though, it tends to be an unfavorable one. More on enforcement suits here: What Is “Enforcing” a Mechanics Lien?
