You need to: 1) Wait and see whether the contractor forecloses upon the lien; 2) Seek to discharge the lien; or 3) Try and force the contractor to file suit (foreclose upon the mechanic's lien).

You did not provide any more details. In addition to what Attorney Brown suggested, I would recommend that you make sure the debt represented by the lien is valid. If so, you can discharge the debt by paying it off and fill out a release-of-lien form for recording. The lien holder would need to release the lien with this form by having it signed before a notary public or Commissioner of the Superior Court and then filed in the land records of the Town where the lien was filed.
