I filed a lien, paid for it.

Michigan

I was unsure of the progress of the line I filed, is there more I need to do? My reply back from levels says, "at risk" or not getting paid? I'm not clear on my standing on this lien, I thought it was done when I filed and paid for this lien.

The Claim of Lien you filed is a notice only. Liens are not self-executing. If you are not paid within a reasonable period of time, you must file a suit in Circuit Court to foreclose on the lien. If you do not file suit within one year of the date the lien was filed, the lien expires and is no longer of any force or effect. You would still have the right to bring an action for breach of contract (there is a six year statute of limitations for breach of contract). However, the lien expires in one year if no suit is filed.

I agree with Attorney Olsen.. you must file a lawsuit to foreclose on the lien within 1 year of it being filed. If you do not the lien is invalid. I strongly suggest you contact an attorney.
