i am going to put a lien in a certain property, the tenant or the owner?

CaliforniaPayment Disputes

I'm the general contractor of a certain project, the tenant failed to pay my invoice up until now, and suddenly they terminated my contract. The invoice is a change order, before the invoice i sent a proposal change order but they ignore it.

If you didn’t serve a preliminary notice on the owner, then your only lien rights are against the tenant’s interest in the property. You can lien but just for the tenant’s interest. If you did send a preliminary notice to the tenant and owner both, then you can name the owner as well. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about this.
