Filing a Florida mechanics lien is a relatively simple process. Ultimately, all it requires is filling out a Florida mechanics lien form, paying a fee and having that form recorded with the county recorder, then sending notice to the owner that their property has been liened within 15 days of recording. There are some additional requirements and quirks worth knowing, though - and these two articles should help you learn everything you need to know to get your Florida lien claim recorded: (1) Florida Mechanics Lien Guide and FAQs; and (2) How to File A Florida Mechanics Lien – Step By Step Guide To Get You Paid. Additionally, keep in mind that online services - like Levelset - can help with filing a Florida lien. If that's something you're interested in, you can get that started here: File a Florida Mechanics Lien.

Other recovery options can force payment without having to file a mechanics lien

With the above in mind, note that it might be worth pursuing recovery by less-aggressive means before jumping straight into a mechanics lien claim. Options like sending payment demand letters or even Notices of Intent to Lien are often very useful. While they might not always lead to payment, they can at least get payment talks moving in the right direction.
