Client bounced check and only paid the check amount. I had fees associated with the return.

It can be a struggle to assess fees like a return check fee, even when they're specifically allowed under the contract. But, it might be possible to include the fee in the next invoice. Alternatively (or additionally), sending invoice reminders or even demand letters reminding a client of their debt might help to get them to make payment. And, if push comes to shove, those fees could be recoverable via collections or legal action.
