In South Carolina, how long is a mechanics lien valid?

Once filed, a South Carolina mechanics lien is only valid for six months after the last day the claimant furnished labor or materials to the project. This is a fairly tight window compared to other states; as the deadline to file is 90 days after last furnishing. Meaning, if the lien was filed at the latest date, claimants have only 3 months to resolve the payment dispute before filing a foreclosure action. If there is still time, one useful step to take is to send a Notice of Intent to Foreclose.
