There is no registration required to file a mechanics' lien in South Carolina. The mechanics lien (along with all the statutorily required elements - including property description, accounting, license #, verification, etc.) needs to be both served on the property owner and filed with the Register of Deeds for the County where the property is located within 90 days of your last date of work. You can prepare the lien yourself but be very careful to follow the statutory requirements precisely - SC Code 29-5-10 et seq. If you do not feel comfortable following the statutory requirements, you should seek an attorney's assistance.
