Per Missouri mechanics lien laws, general contractors, subcontractors, laborers, suppliers of material, equipment lessors, registered architects, engineers, and surveyors have mechanics lien rights and the qualifying parties that may file a lien. If the party that filed the lien is considered one of the following parties they were able to file a lien despite the lack of construction contract considering Missouri is one of the many states where written contracts are not required to file a mechanics lien. However, a preliminary notice or notice of intent to lien is required in Missouri to provide notice on private projects.

Levelset has provided some options you can explore to fight an improper lien that was filed on your property.

I hope that helps!
