How do I get paid from my contractor in Florida?

FloridaCollections

Hello, I am a subcontractor in Florida and my contractor do not want to pay me what he owns me. What can I do to get my money?

Depending on when you first started the work, you may be able to serve a notice to owner and record a lien against the property. If that is not an option, then you can demand payment from the contractor or possibly sue him for breach of contract. You should contact an attorney to discuss your options.

I would suggest finding out exactly why he does not want to pay you. Perhaps there is something that needs to be completed to finalize payment. If your work is satisfactory and complete, make a demand for you payment in full. If he has a cash flow problem, you could offer to let him pay you half now and the balance with a postdated check. If he still refuses to pay you could hire an attorney to file suit or a collection agency collect it without any upfront cost. Feel free to email me at srauch@rauchmilliken.com Best regards, Steve
