How do I file a lien on a home we have done the remodel on

South CarolinaMechanics Lien

We are a general contractor and did a remodel for a client on Hilton Head Island, SC. He has not paid a payment since August 2019 despite several attempts to collect. He keeps insisting we do more and more work and never offers up any kind of good faith payment. He owes us over $22k. I did this before with ZLien and it was easy. Is it the same process

Filing a South Carolina mechanics lien is a relatively simple process. Ultimately, it's as simple as filling out certain paperwork with required project and property information, filing that document with the appropriate county recorder's office, then having notice of that lien filing served on the owner by the Sheriff. Levelset discusses the process in detail in this article: How to File a South Carolina Mechanics Lien – Step by Step Guide to Get You Paid. Additionally, keep in mind that the mere threat of a mechanics lien will often lead to payment too - with fewer headaches caused by lien filings. More on that here: What is A Notice of Intent to Lien And Should I Send One? Finally - you should know that zlien rebranded to Levelset a little over a year ago. And, if you're looking to file a lien with Levelset's help, you can begin that process here, or you can contact someone from the Levelset team to get that process started.
