Getting B-2 lincense in Arizona

CaliforniaLicenses

Hi there, My name is George and I am moving to Arizona in a few months. I am planning to apply for a B-2 (General Small Contractors) license. Currently, I live and work in California as a handyman. Does my extended experience in California could count toward the prerequisite minimum experience necessary to obtain a license in Arizona? Thank you!

Contractor licensing in the state of Arizona is governed by the AZ Registrar of Contractors. Typically, to apply as a B-2 General Small Commercial Contractor, Ariz. Rev. Stat. §32-1122(E) requires that the applicant have a "minimum of fours years' practical or management trade experience, at least two of which must have been within the last ten years, dealing specifically with the type of construction." As far as what defines "experience" the laws are pretty vague. However, experience in the field is experience in the field, regardless of which state the experience is gained. To be sure you are prepared to fill out the application, it requires: (1) the name of the employer or "self-employed," (2) the duration of experience, (3) average hours worked a week, (4) position, (5) size of projects, and (6) a description of the applicant's main duties. If you are unsure if your experience will qualify, you can email specific questions to licensing@roc.az.gov. You also might find this article helpful as well: AZ Contractor's License: Who Needs One?
