G/C name change after sent notice, which name should I put in lien?

CaliforniaNotice of Intent to Lien

When we filed the preliminary notice the G/C name is A Contracting, Inc. But I think they change to b Builders, so I just put bBuilders when I order the intent to lien, is that right?

It's important practice to have information that's as accurate as possible on a mechanics lien claim. So, if a contractor has changed their legal name, then making sure that legal name appears on all documents should be a priority. Still, when notice was sent to the GC under a different entity name, it's also desireable to have some consistency between the two documents.

A good fix may be to go ahead and include both company names on the mechanics lien claim. Including something like "New Contractor Name (formerly Old Contractor Name)" might split the difference, while ensuring the contractor's correct legal name is on the document.
