Filing a mechanical Lien in NY after 16 months

New YorkLien Deadlines

A contractor sent me an unpaid invoice dated March 2021 for a work date of Jan 2021. Together with the invoice there a notice that they will file a mechanical lien on my single family home if I don’t pay. It is now May 2022, more than a year after can they legally still file a lien? Isn’t the deadline for single family homes 4 month after completion of supposed work? Should I worry?

A mechanic's lien on a single family home must be filed within four months of completion of the work. However, the "work" does not get parsed out month-by-month. So, your contractor can lien for work performed in January of 2021 if that contractor's last overall work was performed within the past 4 months.
