Federal construction projects will very typically require prevailing wages, regardless of where they're located. If the federal job exceeds $2,000, then prevailing wages are probably required. With that being said - there can be some nuance when determining whether the specific project will require prevailing wages and whether the work being performed will garner prevailing wages. Though, most on-site work should be entitled to prevailing wages.

How to find out if prevailing wages are required on your specific job

Prevailing wage requirements should generally be included in the bid documentation for the higher tiered parties. So, if those can be accessed, that might be a shortcut to finding out whether prevailing wages should be being paid. If you're an employee subcontractor wondering whether you should be getting prevailing wages, a good first step would be to reach out to your employer or customer. Chances are, they'll know whether prevailing wages ae required for the job and why they are or aren't being paid. And, if your employer or customer doesn't know, then simply going up the payment chain until you find someone who does know may help. Or, directly contacting the public agency who's in charge of the job might clear things up. And, yet another option might be to seek out a prevailing wage attorney to see what they think/if they can help to recover wages. If you're an employer determining whether you should pay prevailing wages - that same information should apply. Additionally, if you need help processing prevailing wages and certified payrolls, then services like eBacon or Contractors Prevailing Wage might be able to help, too. Or, contacting your CPA could get you on the right track.
