Does accepting a partial payment forfeit my right to file a lawsuit or a lien?

Florida

I am a subcontractor hired by an unlicensed contractor ( found out after the fact) to redo a bathroom in an owner occupied condo in Florida.. i am owed $1500 and The "contractor" is trying to only give me $500. If I accept the $500 does that forfeit my right to file a lawsuit or a lien ?

It might be too late for a lien, but you would only forfeit your right to sue if you agreed that the $500 was payment in full.

Difficult to say based on your information. But my opinion is you were not in Privy and neither was the "Contractor" Since you can't have an illegal contract. The guy who hired you doesn't even have the right to lien. The property owner would have also had to have received an NTO from you within 45 day from the start of work.
