I am a tenant that has done a lot of work on my rental unit and not paid. I just searched county records and in 2014 the owner designated my home as his homestead. He's been living in Portugal since 2015. Do I need to file a document stating this is my homestead before filing a mechanics lien? It's for 200k so please make sure you answer this correctly.
More details....I'm in Texas and we do not have a written contract so this address CAN NOT be listed as his homestead. I'm just wondering if I need to file something to make sure that is cleared out from 2014 and the records reflect it as so. Just not sure if I file a homestead or if I just file something stating that it's not his.
