Do I need an attorney?

Florida

We are homeowners in Lake Worth who contracted with a licensed roofer to re roof our house. The old roof was removed and hot mopped on January 5, 2022. Six months later the roof still has no tiles and the contractor is claiming supply chain issues and hasnt offered any other tile choices. Meanwhile we are concerned that the roof underlayment has been compromised being exposed to the elements for 6 months. The contractor claims the underlayment is fine and the tile delivery date is still unknown. There has been very little communication (updates) initiated by the contractor and we have paid 93% of the total contract price and still have no roof! Please advise should we hire an attorney to push this to the finish line?

You should absolutely get an attorney involved. It is inexcusable that the roofer removed your existing roof without having the product in hand with which to replace it. If this roofer cannot obtain product, you need to get your money back and find a roofer who can. You may also be entitled to damages if it turns out - as you suspect - that the underlayment has been compromised from exposure. Feel free to reach out to me as I have handled matters like this in the past.

Yes – hire a construction attorney. Go to https://www.floridabar.org/about/cert/cert-cl-mbrs/ for a list. You can select based on city or county.
