Hi I have a construction contract with a customer in California building a indoor playground unit I had to leave do to the Corona virus outbreak in the US to make sure my family was ok and I told them I would be back after the virus was gone now there saying I'm in violation of my contract and there demanding me to send them $8000 back in 14 days what can I do about this

You have several viable options to dispute contractor's claim for money. 1) contractors cannot demand money for work they have not performed. 2) your obligation to perform (open the door for the contractor to do work may be barred by the state, county or city's stay-at-home order if your business is not deemed an essential industry as defined by the federal and state guidelines. 3) force majeure clause of the contract (if the contract contains one) relieving performance due to a condition that is beyond the anticipated control of the parties. contact a good construction attorney to help if contractor insists further.
