Can we begin construction on a property that has a builder's lien registered against it?

California

We have been hired to begin a construction job for a property that has a builder's lien registered against it from another company. We found out about the charge through a title search. Can we still proceed? If not, what do we do?

There is nothing preventing you from working on the project just because another contractor has previously liened it. However, you should know that if you need to record a lien later because you were not paid, your lien would be junior to the first contractor's.
