ColoradoDefectsLien Deadlines

the contractor filed a lien on my property in mid 2019 but the work was not complated or done in workman fashion ---so now he is slowly trying to complete the project. The lien supposedly only lasts for 6 mths.Does the contractor have any provisions to reinstitute the lien. The o and E does not show that the lien eas renewed within 6 mths.I am fed up with the delay and damages done to my property by substandard work.can i fore the contractor?

Colorado mechanics lien claimants can file an extension to extend their timeframe for filing a mechanics lien in the first place. But, once that lien claim has been filed, the claimant can't extend their deadline for enforcing the filed claim. Importantly, though - the deadline to enforce a Colorado mechanics lien doesn't depend on when the lien was filed. Rather, the deadline to enforce is based off of when the project was completed or when labor or materials were last furnished to the project property. So, if the work is ongoing, then the deadline to enforce a Colorado lien has not passed. With all of that being said, an owner can certainly contest their contractor's lien claim. To do that, it might be useful to consult with a local Colorado construction attorney for help identifying potential issues and bringing an action to challenge the lien.
