im am an individual who did work on a property can text messages be used as an agreement or contract for work performed and labor?

It's possible for text messages to create a contract if all of the necessary elements are present. So if text messages show that there's been an offer, acceptance, consideration - it's quite possible that a contract was formed. Of course, keep in mind that verbal contracts and even implied contracts could both be viable, too, even if texts don't create a written contract.
