Can I stop a project if the owner is not following the agreement?

CaliforniaConstruction Contract

I have a contract to do an addition project, and the owner is being very difficult not following it, making change orders and not wanting to pay. I would like to get out of the contract. What is the proper protocol to stop the work.

Good morning. The first place to look in order to determine the proper path forward is the contract -- what does the contract say about the parties' rights, duties, and responsibilities regarding suspension, termination, dispute resolution, and related topics?
