Mechanics lien rights are available for contractors, subs, suppliers, and other contruction businesses when they go unpaid for their work in California. And, as a result of their work to improve the property, they're entitled to mechanics lien rights against the project property. However, it's not a two-way street, and an owner cannot file a mechanics lien against their contractor.
