Can I place a mechanics lein on a property?

I am a subcontractor on a project hired by a GC. with change orders that have not been paid for material that has been purchased. Also have an outstanding balance on original contract scope. Today I was informed my company is being removed from the project.

Your problem could be handled a couple of ways, but it's a little fact specific. Jump on a call with a construction attorney and they can probably talk you through some of this and give you some ideas on how to handle. That may be liens or a straight breach of contract action.

As a sub, you only have lien rights if you served the owner and the GC (and the lender, if there is one) with a timely Preliminary Notice. The preliminary notice covers work done in the last 20 days and then all work done after that. So if it’s been more than 20 days since you last performed your work, and if you haven’t already served a Preliminary Notice, it’s too late to legally do so now. You do, however, still have breach of contract rights against the GC who hired you. I’m happy to answer any questions you have about this.
