Can I inform a client to request a final waiver of lien or should I file a lien on my own?

PennsylvaniaMechanics Lien

I was a 1099 employee of a contractor on a residential project in PA. There are still bonus payouts owed to me from the contractor (former employer) that I don't feel confident that I will see. The balance of the project's payments are what is roughly owed to me. Can I inform the client to request a final waiver of lien?

Asking the homeowner to ask for a lien waiver won't do you much good. If you have lien rights, you should send out a notice of intent to lien and the follow through from there. It's unclear from the facts you presented whether you have lien rights; but problems can arise if you file a lien without the right to do so. You should speak with a legal professional to figure out your best options.
