Can I file a mechanics Lien in Kansas?

KansasMechanics LienRight to Lien

I’m a contractor what completed a residential job for a customer. Customer paid me the day of installation with check. A few days later she was upset about a spec on the granite slab. She stopped the check she had given me! Can I file a mechanics lien in Kansas if customer is refusing to pay me

In Kansas, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers to contractors and subcontractors are entitled to mechanics lien rights provided they have furnished labor or materials to the improvement of property for which they remain unpaid. However, there are certain rules and requirements that must be met in order to retain a mechanics lien right, and ensure that a filed lien is valid and enforceable. Partis ho do not contract directly with the property owner must provide certain preliminary notice to the owner prior to filing a mechanics lien, but that requirement is waived for parties contracting directly with the owner. Generally, a Kansas mechanics lien must be filed within 4 months of last furnishing labor or material to the project, but that deadline may be extended for one month. There are specific form requirements, as well, so it's important to make sure you have all the information required. You can download a form and fill it in manually, (information that can help with filing a Kansas mechanics lien can be found here), or, you can complete the process online quickly and easily here.
