Can I file a mechanic lien after 7 months of completion for the project?

CaliforniaMechanics Lien

I am a general contractor, I've completed a project 7 months ago. But I have not been able to collect the remaining balance from the client. What can I do? Thank you.

You have 90 days from the date of completion in which to record a mechanics lien, unless a valid Notice of Completion or Notice of Cessation has been recorded. You can still file a complaint against the Owner for breach of contract and collect what you are owed that way. I suggest you seek the assistance of a lawyer who is experienced with mechanics liens to assist you in determining your best course of action.

If the project was completed 7 months ago you are too late, but you could still sue the owner for what is owed.
