Can I file a lien on a Job for work where I was approved by email but no signed proposal?

CaliforniaMechanics LienNotice of Intent to Lien

We are Plaster Contractor in California. We send our price to a General contractor to do the plaster work on a property. We sent the proposal and he replied "the job is yours." Then he asked us to install scaffold. After 6 months with our scaffold there. General contractor decided to use another plastering company. Ours caffold is there and they are using it. Can I file a Lien on this to collect?

If you served your 20 day preliminary notice, yes. In fact, you can serve the prelim now, but it will only go back 20 days from the date of service.

It is past the 20 days from the Date of Service. Would we now need to take it to Small Claims?
