A few questions on prevailing wage

IllinoisPrevailing Wages

Hello, I am a project manager for a restoration company and our company does prevailing wage jobs from time to time. I have to send some of our laborers and carpenters there to do emergency work. I am unsure on a few items: 1. Our guys go on the clock when they leave our shop in a company vehicle. If they are headed to a PW job, should they be paid PW for that travel time or is that not required? 2. Due to the nature of our business, our guys are there after hours or on weekends. If they worked on a non PW job for the first 40 hrs of the week and then go to a PW job on Saturday, should they be paid PW at overtime rate? Thank you, Russ Snyder

I'm no expert on Illinois prevailing wage laws. However, there are some resources online that provide helpful information in this arena. According to this resource from CCMI (a prevailing wages consulting group), overtime pay is required for all work performed on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays. According to that resource, it also appears that commuting, in and of itself. is not covered by prevailing wage requirements. So, while an employee may be on the clock once they're on their way to the job site - that commuting time will not be subject to prevailing wage requirements. Note, though, that workers who transport materials or equipment to and from a public works site are entitled to prevailing wages for their, work. Ultimately, with the serious implications of prevailing wage regulations, it might be helpful to consult with a local business or attorney who's more familiar with prevailing wage requirements. They'll be able to take a deeper look at your situation and will benefit from experience in the field.
