Prequalifying your customers is important - especially when it's a company you've never worked with and if no one in your network is familiar with them. This article goes into great detailing how to research your customer: Prequalification: How to Avoid Bad Contractors, Subs, and Suppliers Before They Become Your Problem. As mentioned in that article, researching the company on the Better Business Bureau, Angie's List, Google, Facebook, etc. can be a great start. Searching for the company on Levelset's contractor pages will be useful too. Further, searching a contractor's CSLB license can be useful, too.
