The Yolo County Recorder does not publicly disclose information on recording backlog.

If the project is located in Yolo County, then yes, you will want to record your lien with the Yolo County Recorder’s office.

Generally, to file a mechanics lien in Yolo County you should 1) Meet all California Mechanics Lien requirements including having sent a 20-day notice. 2) Meet all county document filing requirements, which include printing your lien on 8.5 x 11 inch paper using .5 inch margins, except at the top of the first page where you should use a 2.5inch margin. 3) Pay all appropriate and required filing fees for the county to record your document.

All documents must comply with the 8 1/2″ x 11″ standard page size. Any page that is not 8 1/2″ x 11″ incurs an additional recording fee.

The Yolo County Clerk/Recorder’s Office accepts check, money order, credit card or cash payment for services.

Credit cards accepted are Visa, MasterCard, Discover and American Express. When faxing or mailing, use the Credit Card Form from the
Forms page at yolorecorder.org. Include this form with your application for services.

The Yolo County Recorder’s regular recording fee is $24.00 for the first page and $3.00 for each additional page.

If you are mailing a check and do not know the exact number of pages of a particular document (available through the Official Document Search), insert “not to exceed $20” or an amount that you think is appropriate. They will fill in the amount and send you a receipt with the document.

Along with your request make sure to include:

1. Fee in the form of a check or money order made payable to the Yolo 2. County Clerk/Recorder or the Credit Card Charge Form
3. Daytime phone number
4. Self Addressed Stamped Envelope for return mailing.
